The Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 set isn’t your normal Lego set. This isn’t a model that you put together using the traditional Lego blocks. Instead, it’s a robot that you’ll be able to control once its built! If you’ve got a child interested in science or robotics, this is an excellent quality toy.

Should You Buy The Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 For Your Child?
There’s no getting around the fact that this kit is expensive! It retails at over $200, so it isn’t the kind of toy you want to buy only for your kids to get bored with it. Thankfully, it’s very unlikely that this will happen. In truth, this is a fantastic piece of kit, with so many features that it’ll take your child a long time to figure out how to even use them all!
The complexity of this kit depends on what kind of robot you want to build. Some parents and teachers have complained that it’s too difficult for beginners. This is true, to an extent. Lego have designed it so that it is possible to build a robot following the instructions in about one hour, and the instructions for the featured robots are detailed and easy to follow. These robots are the Shooterbot, alligator, ball color sorter and humanoid.
That said, there’s not enough instruction included when it comes to programming. Although the software is easy to use, the instructions make it difficult to get going. In this sense, it’ll take your child a while to learn how to use it properly, and they may need extra instruction from you. This is why it’s not the best choice of toy for children under the age of 10, and it’s not for impatient children who don’t see anything through to the finish.
That said, once your child does get past the initial learning curve it’ll be well worth it. This product is only really limited by the imagination and can be reused again and again. It’s also compatible with other Lego products, expanding the possibilities even further.
This is the perfect kind of toy for kids to use with their friends or their parents, helping them to learn teamwork as they make their way through the instructions.

In short, the Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 is a set that brings your Lego to life, literally! It can shoot, detect objects, sort color balls, move around and more. Although it’s expensive, it can’t be beaten in terms of building possibility and the time your child will spend with it. Just make sure you’re prepared to help them understand programming, or buy lego mindstorm a separate NXT guide, if you want your child to make the most of it beyond the four included robots.
